SB 2 Firearms
Introduced by Senator Portantino

Signed into law by Governor Newsom 9/26/2023

This bill seeks to revise several sections of existing California Penal Code related primarily to concealed carry of firearms.

The bill is opposed by the California Rifle and Pistol Association and Riverside Sheriff Chad Bianco.

Comments: Existing California law relating to concealed carry of firearms is already very extensive including background checks, fingerprinting, hours of training and fees. Additional new firearm laws are not needed and will only further restrict the Constitutional right of self defense to responsible citizens.

All of us support the safe use of firearms but the revisions provided in SB 2 do not further enhance public safety beyond the firearm legislation that is already in place. Those who, for whatever reason, decide to take a gun into a public setting for the purpose of hurting others have no regard for laws. regardless of how many there are.

As it stands now, if a deranged person enters a gun free public space with the intent to kill, the only option available to law abiding folks is to try to run and hide. We all know that that doesn't usually end so well.
