This bill authorizes a minor 12 years of age or older to consent a vaccine without their parents permission.

Section 1. 6931 (a) "A minor 12 years of age or older may consent to a vaccine that is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration and meets the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (ACIP) without the consent of the parent or guardian of the minor."

Comments:

Parents are responsible for their children and while politicians can privately undermine the parent's authority behind their back, doing so is an egregious and reprehensible act that is almost certain to produce in the child a lack of respect for parental authority. This will in turn contribute to the already weakening of society.

SB 866 is a wrong headed government over-reach. Law makers should be looking for ways to strengthen families, not tear them apart.
