Introduced by Senator Pan
February 14, 2022

Dr. Richard Pan, state senator and pediatrician said, “I introduced Senate Bill 1018 to address the amplification of misinformation and disinformation on online platforms by requiring platforms to publicly disclose how their algorithms work and to share data for research purposes.

Comments:

For a bill that uses transparency in its title, it is remarkable that it seems to be anything but transparent.

Who defines misinformation and disinformation? What we saw since the beginning of COVID-19 was either tow the government narrative and protocols concerning COVID-19 or face withering criticism and censorship. SB 1018 is doubling down on that through government censorship and fines. As written in section 11549.73 of this bill, "A violation of this chapter shall subject the violator to a civil penalty of up to one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) for each violation...."

So who do we go to? A doctor in the state legislature or doctors who never lost one COVID-19 patient out of 10,000 if they were able to treat them within seven days following the first sign of symptoms?

SB 1018 ensures that the government protocol is the only healthcare choice available with no second (dissenting) opinions allowed.
